May is here and so are the latest issues of Ruralite, Florida Currents and Currents. Let’s explore how our members are communicating with their readers this month.

Feature Examples

Profiles are the perfect way to highlight colorful characters for readers in your community. For Valley Electric Association in Nevada, John Glionna told the story of an outspoken saloon owner who doesn’t take any lip. Craig Reed profiled a Blachly-Lane member in Oregon who went from drain-cleaner to quilting master. For Lincoln County in Oregon, Dianna Troyer reported on the dedicated volunteers (including a lineman!) who coach athletes at the local high school.

May is Electrical Safety Month and the latest pages of our magazines are filled with safety tips. Lynn Culp shared 30 years of electrical safety awareness knowledge in the Voice Box column. Pam Blair, assistant editor for Florida Currents, encouraged readers to know what actions to take to stay safe around electricity. For Consumers Power in Oregon, Derrill Holly shared tips for recognizing potential electrical hazards at home. Meghaan Evans wrote about electrical safety lessons for children, including school and community events that Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative hosts in Oregon.

Electrical safety extended to the back pages. Oregon Trail Electric Co-op CEO Les Penning revealed the importance of electrical safety at work and home. Clay Campbell, manager of Escambia River in Florida, stresses that safety is a priority for their members and employees. Tommy Wolff, CEO and general manager of Columbia Basin Electric Cooperative, encouraged members to think about power line safety and “LOOK UP!”
