Inside the Magazine: November

Posted on Nov 7, 2018

Traditionally, we give thanks during November. Let’s take a look at how public power utilities are expressing gratitude in the November Ruralite, Florida Currents and Currents magazines.

Pages from Nov Issue

Feature Examples

Several utilities chose to profile local veterans. Douglas Electric (OR) shared an inspiring story of a soldier intent on serving our country during World War II. Lane Electric (OR) profiled a veteran involved in three major wars. Courtney Cobb’s piece for Central Electric (OR) touched on Korean War veterans receiving recognition in our nation’s capital. Midstate Electric (OR) featured a veteran’s history as a Marine through World War II. Recognize veterans in your community and share gratitude for all they have done.

Kathy Ursprung’s feature for Northern Wasco PUD (OR) highlights how the Columbia Gorge Food Bank battles food insecurity. Blachly-Lane Electric (OR) also made sure to thank the volunteers at Triangle Food Box combating community hunger. Volunteer efforts are always uplifting and worth sharing.

You don’t need a holiday to give thanks. Dianna Troyer’s feature for United Electric (ID) profiles a long-time bus driver, thanking her for 50 years of dedication. Bring readers closer together by highlighting members of your community.

Share Packages

This month’s Voice Box column is from Communications Manager Beth Takioka at Kaua’i Island Cooperative (HI). She continues the theme of thanks by touching on the relationship between communities and public utilities. November’s Power Lines section highlights several publicly-owned utilities across the nation and how they contribute to their communities with donations, services and volunteer efforts.

Glades Electric (FL) made sure to inform their members of the cooperative’s origins, as well as the role they play. Blachly-Lane  Electric (OR) took it a step further, encouraging members to consider running for the board of directors. Your members may thank you for considering their involvement.

Back Pages

Many utilities used the back page to express thanks. Speaking directly to members, General Manager Dave Schneider from Midstate Electric (OR) shared the “impact you have on our co-op and the greater community.” Other utilities, like Harney Electric Cooperative (NV), Nushagak Cooperative (AK) and Kotzebue Electric Association (AK), used attractive graphics to wish members a happy and safe Thanksgiving. No matter how it’s done, your members will appreciate words and gestures of gratitude.
